Vampire Knight Chapter 74

Okay, so this is VERY long in coming.  I've been meaning for a while to post a few thoughts about Chapter 74.  It's been out for a while now, but since the manga skipped a month, at least I'm not terribly behind. ;)

So here's a link to a scanlated version...

Read Vampire Knight Chapter 74 Online

I don't know if it's the best version or not, if someone knows a better one let me know.

Okay so a lot of my thoughts on this chapter revolve around the delightful drinking scene between Yuki and Zero. :D  Seriously, someone straddling Zero like that in the woods with his clothes kinda disarranged and drinking from him... oh yeah, hotness. :D :D  Naturally, I'd prefer Kaname in that role, but absent that possibility, Yuki will do. ;D

Zero's expressions were really well done.  He's absolutely delicious in this chapter. *heart*  What Yuki saw inside him through his blood was very interesting.  I wonder what it all means.  She saw a representation of herself there (hehe acting as a guard for Zero even in that capacity) as well as Ichiru, which leaves me wondering who it is that Zero's subconsciously trying to keep locked in that coffin - what and who is he afraid of?  Since it seems like this is the representation of people whose blood he's had, we're possibly left with Kaname and Shizuka unaccounted for. :)  He didn't directly drink Shizuka's blood, but Maria said she felt her inside him, so it's possible.  It could also be Kaname, since that's another connection I can imagine Zero wanting to suppress, although it's possible that the possible shape of the dog we see behind ghost-Yuki in that one scene could represent Kaname's presence, no way to know for sure.  Of course, it could be something else entirely, like his own vampire nature or something like that.  Anyway, I hope we'll find out for sure eventually, I find that interesting.

I also find it interesting that apparently drinking someone's blood leaves little bits of them inside you like that.  Gives me all kinds of plot bunnies. ;D

You know, I've realized that Aido tends to find out all kinds of things that other people don't know - such as what really happened to Shizuka, the fact that Zero was a vampire and now seeing what Yuki and Zero did.  He's really surprisingly good at keeping secrets.  I thought his reaction was rather interesting and different from what it would have been earlier on in the series.  He indicated to Shiki later that he feels Yuki is safe because Zero is keeping an eye on her, which means he's got a much better grasp of the situation than one would expect.

LOL and Zero finally seems to grasp that he and Kaname actually have the same goal! *snickers*  I liked his line about why he wasn't using the excuse of Kaname's being wanted now to go after him.  Although I think there's more to it than that.

Poor Ichijo, his change was a little creepy.  Sara obviously did something to him. :S  And what is up with those blood tablets?!?!  I wonder if she's lacing them with her blood or something to get it into lots of people and get control over them.  Ohhh hey, Zero is on the tablets now, I wonder if she's the presence he's unconsciously trying to suppress?  Hm, who knows?

The confrontation between Cross and Kaname is interesting and dramatic and a little sad. Kaname's face when Cross spoke of not returning Yuki made me tear up.  Because it's clear that Kaname already knows, damn it.  He knows he's chosen the path that no one else will understand, one which makes him the "bad guy" to many people and takes him away from Yuki and everyone else.  I think after a fashion he's choosing to become the martyr that he intended to be centuries ago had not the hooded woman preempted him and taken his place as the sacrifice to create the first hunters.

It seems to me the only thing that swayed him for a while and perhaps made him think he could have some different, less desolate kind of fate was being with Yuki.  This is all just my impressions and opinions of course, but I feel like her innocent love made him think that maybe there was some other path he could walk or that he didn't have to always be alone, but when it was clear that she could never be happy the way things were, could never be happy with just him, then he went back to his original plan so that she could be free and happy, even if it was in a world without him.  I really think at this point he more at less expects, if not flat out intends for her to end up with Zero because a) Zero is capable of protecting her and b) her feelings for him are rather apparent.

It's so sad and frustrating because Kaname doesn't seem to care what he wants, he'll sacrifice himself and his desires for what he thinks is right and has to be done to protect Yuki (and sort of the rest of the world too).  *sniff*  It kind of makes me want to hug him and slap him all at the same time.  I want to tell him to care about himself a little, lol, he's kind of like Shiki in that way.  What is it with these Kuran men?  I get where he's coming from, yet I have to think there's some other way to go about it, that all the purebloods don't really have to die... but who knows, I suppose Sara may yet prove me wrong on that and illustrate his concerns very eloquently. :P  *wishes he'd just start with her* lol

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens next with Kaname and Cross.

I also wonder how Zero's holding up now that Yuki drank from him.  Isn't that going to make his thirst worse? I wonder if he'll drink from her again any time soon. :)  This is also the first time he's been bitten since Shizuka I think, right?  I wonder what he's feeling about all that, and I wonder how hard he's trying to pretend to himself that he didn't like it. 0:)

Speaking of Zero, there's this song that was making me think of the current situation between he and Yuki.  It's "Walk Away" by Five Finger Death Punch.

Listen:

Lyrics:
I'm sorry for the demon I've become
You should be sorry for the angel you are not
I apologize for the cruel things that I did
But I don't regret one single word I said

Just walk away make it easy on yourself
Just walk away please release me from this hell
Just walk away there's just nothing left to feel
Just walk away pretend that none of this is real

Could you forgive me if I told you that I cared?
Would you be sorry if I swore that I'd be there?
Please forgive me for laughing when you fall
I'm so sorry, but I never cared at all

Just walk away make it easy on us both
Just walk away there was never any hope
Just walk away you already know the deal
Just walk away, pretend that none of this was, none of this was real.

Originally, I thought of Zero and Kaname when I heard it (as I so often do lol) but the other day it struck me that it could also relate to Zero's attitude and confused feelings towards Yuki at present.  A lot of it works very well coming from Zero's point of view, especially if you factor in a heavy dose of denial. ;)

*pass quickly before going out*

Some days ago the Mousou scans version could be able to relise in LJ. (along the monthhave been appreting several fast versions with bit crappy translations ...)

here you are the link; http://mousouscans.livejournal.com/

*hugs*

I completely agree with what you said, except for the Kaname x Zero stuff lol... I think I've moved on from that phase.

There actually is a much better translation group than the one that posts chapters on mangareader, they're not so well known because they post on their own website. They are reeeeeeeeally good, but unfortunately they still haven't posted chapter 74 so I hope they haven't given up on the series.

Here is the link for their manga site ----> http://reader.ieatsoul.com/en/

and they have a forum here ---> http://ieatsoul.com/

Hope this helps :)

Do you know waht?

I was always thinking of Ruka and her power(bc vk74) What if the massacre (Lord Aido incl) is just an illusion planned by Kaname.

A way to..."now a new age in which the world belongs to yuuki, be all loyal to her"
I see this a a big pilanr on the Againts Sara plan game chess ^_^

I LOVED this chapter. More was said between looks than in words, and I love that. I'm looking forward to the Kaname/Kaien interaction. I love the chairman, so I want to see him do something badass!

Most likely it'll turn out to be Shizuka in the coffin - I thought the wolf represented Kaname, considering - but. I also kind of wonder if it's actually Zero, the parts of him that even now he denies. (Or possibly both, in the form of some suitably horrific Eldritch Abomination.)

"...apparently drinking someone's blood leaves little bits of them inside you..."
Whenever I come across this idea in a vampire series, I always return to Hellsing and how it's phrased there: Blood is gold of the soul, silver of the will. And then remember how many lives Alucard contained and hoping against hope that VK-type vampires aren't quite so...loose. *snerk*

"...clear that she could never be happy the way things were, could never be happy with just him..."
Poor Yuuki, her men are such morons. (ToT) She should have just tied Kaname and Zero both to her bed and explained to them in precise, clear terms that their whole uber-drama and crap just wasn't on anymore. Then distracted them with fun sexytiems before they got a chance to try angsting anyway. (^_^)

Isilen: Awesome, thanks for the link! *hugs* Oohh, and that is a very interesting thought I hadn't considered before. I forgot about Ruka's illusions hmm, that would be quite a twist indeed if that turned out to be the case!

Dreamcatcher: Great! Thank you for the link, I appreciate it!

Laura: Yes, this was definitely one of those chapters where Ms. Hino's awesome art and ability of conveying expression without words was indispensable. Yeah, me too!

takerzmuse: Yeah, I tend to agree about the high possibility of it being Shuzkua in there, or just the part of Zero that he denies or some combo thereof.

LOL well I haven't read Hellsing, but that does seem to describe it well.

*huge grin* yes, oh yes! Completely agree with you! That's exactly exactly what she should have done!! *giggles* (if she wasn't quite so young and frustratingly innocent). I mean, she's a pureblood vampire after all, if Sara can have a harem, so can she! ;D

Mmh, about the symbolic behind what Yuuki sees in Zero's blood, I posted a comment on LJ when the chapter was out and while it maybe isn't accurate, that's my theory about it.

I'll just copy/paste it here because it was too long to write and I don't really feel like doing it again xD

Pasted stuff here -->: Mmh, tell me if I'm crazy but when Yuuki drinks Zero's blood, she delves into his self, a bit like with Kaname when she sees every person from whom he took blood, but we also see a coffin. That coffin probably represents the level E inside him, no?

Because see, traditionnaly, vampires sleep in coffins and that coffin seems restrained and kept closed by the rose vines and the giant sakura tree, and by extension, by Yuuki and Kaname (the wolf). It only makes sense since Shizuka's, Yuuki's and Kaname's blood was supposed to prevent his fall to level E. The sakura tree is the one restricting most effectively the level E since it's his master's blood. The vines are probably Zero's own will to keep the level E caged or maybe his vampire hunter side (I doubt it has anything to do with Bloody Rose, except for the hunter thing) But then, his hunter side is already represented by all those tombs of the Kiryuu ancestors lying everywhere. I'm glad that Yuuki gets to meet Ichiru, I was looking forward to that because there were high chances that she'd bite Zero. To bad that they didn't interact more though.

I guess we'll be able to see if Zero's falling to level E if Hino ever shows that tree again and it looks smaller/weaker/degraded. At least right now it seems like he's okay and won't suddenly fall to level E, it's reassuring :D

End of the pasted stuff.

I wrote that when everyone was theorizing but I think now everyone kinda agreed that what was in the coffin is Zero's level E side. As for the other things...let's pray Yuuki will get another chance to explore it for us :D

Oh but Shizuka IS there...well, I think! xD

When I read the chapter I automatically connected the black wolf to Kaname and the cherry tree to Shizuka. So my thoughts were, the four of them are there, then what IS in the coffin?

I dont know, but I dont think it is Shizuka in the coffin...for me, Zero already has already gotten over that. Not entirely, but enough to not be so scared of that...

I also found it interesting that Zero looked so calm when Yuuki drank his blood. His hunger must be really strong now and I cant stop wondering of all those feelings Zero must have had at that moment. He is so very good at hiding his feelings Dx

The only time he had been bitten was when Shizuka bit him. Both times were not a pretty thing. This was the first time someone bit him without bad intentions. Besides...I bet he liked it (x
That must be confusing for him lol

I just hope that what Ichiru told him in ch59 helps him.

And also, so happy to see Zero and Yuuki finally interacting with each other again x33

I also miss the way he and Kaname would talk in the past. That time when Kaname brought him the cursed doll from a trip xDDD I miss those kind of scenes <33

I am so eager for the next chapter x333

k1216: Very good theory there, I think I'm leaning towards agreeing on that. It does seem like what Zero probably fears most and wants to contain the most is what he sees as the monster in himself. Good thought on the whole symbolism of the coffin too!

AnaE: OH! You're right! Very good catch on the cherry tree, I didn't even think of that. That could easily represent Shizuka, in which case I think the wolf shape is definitely Kaname. It kind of makes sense that his psyche would choose representative avatars for the people he would have a wee bit more issue having inside him, where as Yuki and Ichiru appear as themselves.

Totally agree about what he must be feeling after his first un-non-con bite. :) Sometimes I wish he was a little *less* good at hiding his feelings, I would love to get a peek at what's going on inside him right now. ;)

Yeah, I miss those kind of scenes too.

Hey, I think I love Vampire Knight as much as you do!!!
Today I found your blog and I found it really interessting to read it! And the music you hear is also very good!! XD I think in the future I will watch your blog more often!
