On the subject of the age, it's tricky with Kaname since vampires normally look a bit older than their actual age anyway.

Actually, something I'd been thinking of, you might want to remind people about the fic that the Nasser x Kaname events "ten years ago" are actually ten years ago from the point where the fic is at in the AU, which is already several years after the VK manga timeline. So it was not 'ten years ago' around the same time that Kaname lost his parents, but some years later, hence why he was much older when he met Nasser, and already living with Ichiou and Takuma.

The closer fans always remember, but people just reading normally might forget and be expecting that Kaname is the age he was when he got orphaned since in VK there's often the mention of "ten years" being related to Yuuki's vampire seal, and not to something else.

And since in the fic's AU Yuuki wasn't a vampire and all, it's not the same ten years, since the ten years mentioned in SitD start years later later and Kaname is much older. ^^


I think the pic looks perfect btw, since Kaname looks several years older than the age he was when he got orphaned in the manga, so there's nothing looking off, it works fine with your timeline.

It's just a matter of people remembering that he didn't met Nasser when he was just orphaned/the 'ten years ago' that the manga often mentions, he met Nasser years later and so he was much older. ^^/

Yeah, exactly, vampire age is such an interesting thing to try and portray or figure out really, I'm not at all sure they mature at the same rate or in the same way that humans do, given the flashbacks we've seen. Like in the manga, where by the time of the 'present' Kaname and Zero are only a year apart in age, but when the incident with Zero trying to stab Kaname at the Chairman's house occurs, Zero's supposed to be around 13, which would make Kaname around 14, but he looks a good deal older than Zero does there. heheh of course, maybe Zero was just a late bloomer and Kaname was an early one *smiles at them fondly* but still, makes figuring out how he should look when kinda tricky! :)

Good thought too, probably next chapter I'll make sure and include a note about the timeline in my author notes. Like you said, SitD takes place years after the events in the manga, so 10 years ago in that timeline is definitely after Kaname's been with the Ichijo's for some time already. *nodnod* Thanks for mentioning that. :) *hugs*

Yeah, the little differences between vampires & humans in VK are a lot of fun to poke at etc~! X3
And there's also the chapter cover image from the first page of volume 3, which implies that before Kaname and Zero hit puberty, they looked almost the same age and height, just like they do nowadays too.
So I guess the big difference might happen when vampires hit puberty, they might hit a growth spur before humans do. ^^/

Either that or it's just that Zero is a later bloomer and was short for a while. X3

I love the picture, and it is so great to see you have so many talents. This is wonderful, and it is nice to get a view of Nasser; though, you fear of Kaname appearing too young isn't solid enough for me to believe - ha! He looks great. *Smiles*

I really like what you've done, and his malicious countenance behind Kaname makes me shiver. He is such a strong antagonist, and seeing him come to life is pleasantly eerie - meaning, you did a great job with the picture and made him more real now than he already was.

Well, these two look just like I imagined they would. Glad I read your fic right! Nasser definitely does look as creepy as he sounds in the fic. You managed to convey the same things in your fic and this pic, congratulations! That's quite something.

As for Kaname, do you really think he looks too young in your pic?? Because, well, I had not really thought about the timeline thing, so I hadn't realized that he would have been that old already when the Nasser 'incident' happened. Is it me, or is this sentence much too complicated? Sorry, I can't write, unlike some people...
Anyway, thanks Sagakure for pointing that out! I definitely thought it had happened a short time after he was orphaned *is totally useless, re-read BW's fics recently and got this wrong anyway*. I don't know how SOME PEOPLE manage to keep track of so many details in canon VK and in fics, while having a life on the side AND writing and drawing their own stuff. Amazing. That's true obsession I guess!

Also, I've always wondered about the size difference between Zero and Kaname at the time of their first encounter in canon. I mean, we know there's that issue with human age and vampire age, but it remains vague. It would be nice if we could get a detailed explanation in canon. As for the implication of the chapter cover in volume 3, I really like the idea that vampires have a violent growth spurt and suddenly look several years older at puberty! *Cheers for powerful vampire hormones*. Powerful hormones... sudden development of Kaname's body... Err... I'm going to nosebleed all over my laptop. My mind's always in the gutter these days. *sighs and dives for a tissue*

Oh, and your theme is really beautiful. It always is, but I like that for a Valentine theme, it is not too pink/cheesy, while still being "Valentinish" enough. Congrats! *has to stop writing that, will work on it*
