Vampire Knight: Ice Blue Sin - translated in English (Ice blue no Tsumi)

I am very pleased to be able to share the first story out of the Vampire Knight novel "Ice blue no Tsumi" (Ice Blue Sins), translated into English! :D

The English translation was done by the talented Koneko1991 (thank you for all your hard work!!) and then edited and formatted by me. :)

PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMERS AND IMPORTANT NOTES BELOW BEFORE DOWNLOADING. This translation is not to be taken as absolute fact / canon, it's probably more of a semi-close facsimile thereof. This is for people's enjoyment only - you can consider it a sort of detailed summary or recap if you will. I enjoyed it, so I hope others will too, but don't take it as gospel.

Vampire Knight Novel: Ice Blue SinsDownload story as a PDF

The original novel is copyrighted by Matsuri Hino and Ayuna Fujisaki. The pictures belong to Matsuri Hino. If and when the novel becomes officially available in English, please buy it and support the series!!!

Important Notes:
This is a translation of the first story in the novel, "Ice blue no Tsumi" (Ice Blue Sins), only. This is the story about Aido and Fuuka (a girl from the Day Class). The second story from the same book about Zero's past called "Setsuna no Toki" (A Moment in Time) has unfortunately not yet been translated as far as I know.

Please understand that this copy comes to us via several layers of translation. The original Japanese was translated into Spanish, and then that was translated into English. Naturally, this means that some things may end up literally "lost in translation" LOL. Koneko1991 and I agree that there are some passages, scenes and situations that don't necessarily make perfect sense and occasionally it is difficult to tell who is speaking during a multi-person conversation.

While editing I tried to smooth that out as much as possible, but occasionally I had to leave it a little dubious because I truly wasn't sure how to fix it. This means, of course, that I could have sometimes put the wrong words into the wrong person's mouth, made them act in ways they shouldn't be acting or misconstrued what was intended when re-constructing a sentence or paragraph. So, to anyone who has read the original version, I apologize in advance for any mangling that may have occurred. Likewise, I didn't want to totally re-write every single word, so the sentence structure and way of saying things is a little odd or different sometimes. Please keep in mind that if and when an official translation of the book ever comes out (which I really hope it will!!) it may end up different on some points than this translation, although I believe this copay has the main gist of the plot fully intact.

This is an effort born out of love for the series and the desire to put more VK into the hands of those of us who are sadly lacking multi-lingual skills (like me! XD). It may not be perfect, but hopefully it will give enjoyment to those who have been curious about the novel and want to read a little more about the VK world we love. :)

LOL okay, disclaimers all out of the way, there be SPOILERS AHEAD...

Okay, well, everybody probably already knows the basic plot, but if not, then heed the spoiler warnings. :)

The story was pretty simple, I always wish they made these kind of things more involved, but I know they usually don't. I enjoyed it anyway. :) There was of course entirely too much Fuuka in it for my taste LOL (if I hadn't been editing it I probably would have skimmed through a lot of her parts XD I'm so bad) but I already expected that would be the case. The book has a lot of Aido in it too though, and that was fun. (would have loved to see more Kaname and Zero, but *sigh* I know that wasn't the point... ;D)

It was interesting to note that although Aido is obviously capable of being dramatic, flamboyant and a flirt, he's not so good at being deceptive. What I mean is that it seems to me he's actually a very honest person when it comes to what he's feeling, he just has a tendency to be over zealous about it. Actually, that's what's always getting him into trouble, in some ways he's too honest and obvious about what he's feeling, hence all the clinging, drooling and scraping over Kaname and his general habit to mouth off. *giggles*

What brings this observation on is that in the story Kain, Aido, Ruka and Ichijo are supposed to befriend Fuuka. They know she is an ex-human, although she doesn't know it yet. The Night Class (mostly Aido (in a science capacity) and Takuma (in an administrative capacity)) are assisting with the work being done on the most recent version of blood tablets which they are hoping will slow or even halt an ex-human's transformation into a vampire, or at least halt their falling to a Level E. (Sadly, it doesn't work.). Anyway, the point is that Kaname wants them to befriend her and look out for her, so they do, but unfortunately Fuuka thinks they're all just interested in her, which is of course not quite the case.

Takuma is his normal cheerful self, and in his defense I do think he was being genuine about it, but he also clearly had firmly in mind the need to not get emotionally involved because they all knew what might happen to Fuuka if the pills didn't work. (I think there's a reason that in the manga it was Takuma and/or Shiki whom Kaname would send out to take care of the Level E's, etc. Judging from the events in the book, they seem to be able to keep very objective about such things, much more like hunters in mentality, whereas Aido... not so much, at least, not after the events in this book.)

Ruka acts very friendly, but it is definitely an act (although I don't think any of them intended to be cruel, they were simply doing what they needed to do. We act nice to people we don't particularly care about all the time in school, work or family situations after all). Kain was pleasant although as always he was kinda quiet most of the time. But Aido... LOL Aido apparently doesn't pull off fake like very well. He was rude and very "I-don't-want-to-be-here" in the beginning. Of course eventually, that ends up changing and he ends up liking Fuuka a lot.

BUT this whole rambling explanation was just to get around to the fact that I think it's cute that if Aido acts like he likes you, you can be pretty sure he actually does, and likewise, if he doesn't like you, you can be sure he'll let you know. XD

The ending was kinda sad, I teared up a little over it (but I'm a sap who cries at just about everything these days). But I must say I liked how Kaname showed both kindness and trust to a (cutely) desperate Aido by letting him take responsibility for Fuuka even though Takuma and Shiki were concerned about it and against the idea. It was also interesting to me (because I love thinking about and exploring minuet details of the VK world) how that situation showed us that even among the nobles there were definite power/authority structures in place. It wasn't just lip-service to say that Takuma was vice president of the dorm, he really was in charge when Kaname wasn't around and he expected Aido to abide by his decisions. Aido might have had to, too, if Kaname hadn't gotten involved. Anyway, I just find all that kind of thing interesting. LOL

Also, I like to consider how this incident obviously changed Aido's views towards ex-humans. The pain he went through over having to end Fuuka's life for her seems to have made him want to push ex-humans away harder, realizing quite painfully that changed humans were not like born vampires. I have to wonder how all that might have affected his attitude towards Zero when he eventually found out about him too. (This all took place the year before VK starts, Yuki and Zero are not part of the Day Class yet).

Actually, given Aido's feelings at the end of the story, after what he had to do, I have these vague bunnies nibbling at me for a small conversation between Aido and Zero sometime (in my universe, after they've become friends). We'll see if it ever weaves itself into a fic someday. :)

OH! LOL must not forget the other thing I liked... *chuckle* even though we only see Zero and Yuki for a few moments, I love the fact that irritated!Zero is all like: "WHATEVER, I'm going to go wash the dishes" when Cross & Yuki's vampire-friendly sentiments get on his nerves. LOL... I don't know why it amuses me so much, I guess just because storming off to wash the dishes is such a girl thing to do, but for Zero it seems so natural. XD *makes mental note that she must have him do that sometime when he and Kaname are fighting* ;D

Zero: "Fine. Whatever. I'm going to go wash the dishes."
Kaname: "You can't, Izumi already cleared everything away and they're probably back in the cabinets by now."
Zero: *scowling and grumbling* "Then I'm going to take them out and RE-wash them."
Kaname: "Zero...."
Zero: "What? I want to wash dishes in my own house, is that a crime? Seriously, Kaname, I keep expecting you to hire people to BREATHE for us too..."
Kaname: *deadpan* "They're coming on Tuesday."

OOoookay, wow, seriously off on a tanget there and I have now rambled way too much. XD Anyway, hope you all enjoy the little treat!

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

You are such a love, Vani! *hugs* I will skim through it when I can but everyone sounds IC. Wow, you really spent time on it!

LOL, Zero's amazingly cute in that little dialog you had at the end and of course Kaname would hire those people *winks*

Wow! Thanks for the gift, Vani! *immediately download into her mobile phone to start reading*

FINALLY! I've been waiting soooo long for this. Major thanks to Koneko1991 for their massive translating effort:)

I didn't even know these light novels existed until SGK mentioned them when what-his-face (Zero's old hunter friend) appeared in the manga. Even so, I didn't realize the sorry focused on Fuuka's relationship with Aido. Turned out to be very sweet.

I kept wondering throughout the story if Yori ever reminds Aido of Fuuka. There HAS to be a reason for Hino drawning them so much alike, I mean come on! What a sad thought, though... must be why we haven't seen him with a particular girl in the series so far.

Also, Aido hints the vampires witnessed Fuuka's accident and that Kaname turned Fuuka in order to save her life - or at least that's what I got from it. It would have been nice to see a flashback from their perspective on that day. I can totally see Aido investing his time in Fuuka from the start, which would make more sense of his jealousy toward her Kaname attachment. :D

thank you, thank you!!!!! this'll keep me until your next update ;) although im not sure how long it is yet...hmmm. anyways, thank you SO much for it; i didn't even know it existed.

i was also having those thoughts about Aido and Zero. *laughs* it amuses me that when i think about VK i almost immdeiately think of the universe you've created instead of the actual manga. i was thinking 'ooooh, that'd be such an awesome, awkward conversation between Aido and Zero (your adio and Zero)' hahaha. i hope you can weave it in sometime!!!

that little scene you wrote...*laughs* you're right; that IS such a girly thing to do. i start cleaning when im pissed too, haha. its either that or chuck stuff and its seems more productive to me, haha. Kaname hiring people to breathe for them; haha, i was having Homer Simpson flashbacks. Anyways, thank you yet again!!!!

-Lenko

oooh i forgot to mention! ...sorry, haha. i love seeing Takuma take authority over the others when Kaname doesn't. It's nice to see that he isn't JUST a nice, laid-back, cheerful person. Are we going to see more of that in SitD?

wow vani, Finally the english fandom can get it!!! thanks to you and the girl who translated it.

So i think this is a chance to explain something I have to say ...

THe "original" spanish translation was done by a girl called Nana_Banana [from Barcelona]. It was created in a Thread we call "Megapost VK" where since June '09 i manage (before; Kayiyama) . This is in a Very impotant spanish languaje site --> Mcanime; a place where you can fian Any manga, Any anime and any [...] and donwload for free. (the sp Fansub system is quite large and strong).

"El Megapost Vk" [ http://www.mcanime.net/foro/viewtopic.php?p=3781785] has anything you can imagine about VK to donwload, is alive from spring 2007, was more or less which made popular VK within the spanish/latinoamericam Fandom and since chapter (aprox.) 36 to 50 Nana_Banana was who trasnlated the Manga chapter directly from Japanese. The last year someone from Megapost (i met the place in agouts'08 VK42/3) asked her about the novel and well, Was done!!! ^_^

My Opinion about the translation.... simply I dont know... First the Story looks like to me and other poeple as some medium quality short fic....

Then, well, to be honest, she always put a lot of effort and so and we are veeery gratefull, but her translations were not [quite] good... *cry* sometimes some bubbles were quite confusing to understand the sentence and there was other few who came to misundertanding the manga and false legends(this came 'cos Megapost became so famous!), this came more visible with Sagakure scalations and the official release in Spain (we already have V10 in january!!! *wiii*), the anime ended, people simply began to look for others (in my case i only took Saga's as the true ones) , discrepancy to use others Scans or not, declarations in other places about the favouritims in dialogues to some Pj, so well the rest better not to say...
A/N; anyone who came to the Thread was doing anything liked to collaborate and everyone gave their opinion, not just her.

And because of this...
I question myself if the Ice Blue no Tsumi Translation is accurate or not... somtimes dialogues looks like quite casual and accelerated (by the way, in spanish we use [-] instead of [""] for dialogues lines)
and well, and the rest of the fic sometimes rushed and there are a lot of idioms that only in Spain we understand. I only red once the story some time ago and i cant remember details, but simply...

OK it's a VERY Subjetive opinion but simple.... I dont trust it and I feel very wary.

THat's is because i feel very insecure and pray every month if some day ED. Panini begins to publish the novels asap and to know how much can be wrong with my words.

PLease, Vani, I hope i dont give offensse to you or the other girl who has put so much effort in this...

I simply trying to explain my subjetive opinion of a situation i was near of.

(Lo siento Nana, if you read this, it's not personal at all; VK wouldn't have been the same without your help, but it's what i think and more people I know does)

And because the english fandom is so large and maybe the "canon one" that i fear there could be ups and downs they dont know how has become the story to western fandom...

Sorry Vani, sometimes i loath myself as "Rottermayer", the serious one who comes always with problems and not-so-funny-feeling. You know how much I admire you, althought i'm always there and one of the first ones online [in LJ or similar] with a lot to things and ideas to put in practice, I'm a completly disaster to truly write my comments in any place or keep up with Rw but you dont have idea how your fics help me to spend my bored nights or how cheer me up to know i have something to read in your blog, 'cos symply I know i was come something funny and useful.

I think i will download the file and take a look (wrong from me!!!, speaking whitout take a look fist)

And well, true to be said i dont feel very amused/positive about, especially after saying so much...

So well. I will see if still has the strengh to, thank you very much...

Best regards.
Lucia.

YenGirl: Thanks! LOL glad you liked the little dialog. *snickers*

Kanshou87: Thank you! :D

Noelle: I know, I was too! ;) Thanks! Yes, the story of the first part of the book was about Fuuka and Aido. The second part of the book was about Zero's past, but there hasn't been a translation of that yet.

You know, I was wondering the same thing about Yori after reading that. :)

Yeah, I wasn't really sure what to make of who exactly had saved Fuuka the first time, but if that was the case it would be interesting.

Lenko: You're welcome! :D Thanks! LOL I'm so complimented that you think of them in "my" universe too! ;D Yeah, will definitely have to see about that conversation sometime. ;)

I know! Cleaning when I'm ticked is something I do too. *snickers* As for Takuma, I don't know yet, it depends on how some things end up playing out, we may get to see that a little down the road, that would be cool. :) Thanks!

Islien: Thank you for the explination! It's good to know a little of the history behind it. And thank you for the warning too, no worries at all, I had the same feeling and I tried to convay that in the (way too long) disclaimers I put in the post - I hope that everyone please keeps in mind that I can't speak for how accurate the translation is, especially since it has been translated several times, it is not by any means to be considered definitive.

It's just for fun, a "general gist" type thing, sort of like a detailed summary or recap or something. I enjoyed it, so hopefully others will too and HOPEFULLY we'll get the books officially translated at some point!!! :)

Thank you Koneko1991 for the translation efforts and Vani for posting it!

Don't worry so much, Vani :) I don't mind if it isn't perfect and you've made it very clear (VERY -lolz) to take it with a grain of salt. Honestly, after years in various manga and anime fandoms, I'm used to running across much more sketchy works and translations than this and having to piece them together and fill in the blanks. It's one of the hazards of enjoying something originally published in another language and I think everyone gets that. I only just skimmed it, and will go back for a slower read later, but this document seems pretty clean and understandable when compared to others I've read.

For me it's just great to be able to read some part of the story, so thank you for that!

I know what you mean about getting little inspirations off it. For some reason even just skimming, I was weirdly enough getting Kaname x Aido and Aido x Kaname ideas off it, don't ask me why, but there you have it!

Reading this makes me hope even more that the books are published in English one day. I would buy them!

Cleo

thank you both for the story! i just read it all through. aw its sad and sweet, poor aido-kun. i agree with chloe, don't worry b.wing-sama. i will not take anything as all truth. it's not like theres really anything in there to get really messed up anyway nothing important to VK i mean. its all about the dead exhuman girl and aido-kun, even if it was all wrong it wouldnt matter. but i'm sure its not, it was good! thanks!

OMG! I'm jut oh my god! I can't breath! I've been looking for it in the web everywhere! Thank you so much! I haven't downloaded it and haven't read the summary, but I will... soon. I'm really looking forward for the whole translation! I might actually buy it today and other VK merchandises. :)

Chloe: Thank you for what you said, I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Ooh... and that you were getting bunnies off of it! *sends lots of carrots their way* XD

Anon: Thank you!!

rlovely15: Thanks!! I've been looking for it for a long time too, so I'm glad to be able to share! Hope you enjoy it, and yes, I agree, I would buy it too!

Thank you! Thank you! I just downloaded it and have already read until page 12. Spanish is my maternal language so I really would love to get my hands in the spanish version. Is there a chance you could give me a copy or tell me where can I get a copy of that version? please!!! (Gets on her knees and begs)I could not found it at MCAnime =S.

By the way... this Vani (to whom I´m really thankfull) is the same VaneCaos from fanfiction.net?

Lyna: You're welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm not sure where exactly Koneko1991 obtained the version that she translated, but I did a google search and found this link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NTVOJZ3K which looks like it's probably the Spanish version.

No, I'm not VaneCaos, although we do have the same first name and I know her! :D I'm Blackened Wing over on Fanfiction.net.

Thanks! :)

Vani / AKA Blackened Wing

Thanks a lot :). Looks like this is the right version (jumps around very happy) Really thank you. I didn´t knew your name was Vani =$ you have always been Blackened Wing for me, when I read "thanks Vani" I thought that Koneko1991 was Vani. ha ha ha. Sorry my bad. I´m currently reading your fic "Secret in the Dark" (really loves it) hopes you can update it soon (no pressure on it) really want to know how Kaname reacts at Zero having his cube and I really want to know the "erased" memories of kaname. Again thanks for your help :)

Lyna: Great!! :D LOL no worries, that's the great confusion I get people into because I go by both my penname and sometimes my real name. LOL

Thank you! I'm glad you're liking SITD. I'm working on the next chapter. The Thanksgiving holiday kind of hijacked all my free time this past week, but here's hoping I'll be able to update this weekend. *keeps fingers crossed*

OMFG I can hardly believe it! You girls are really amazing. I was so curious about this novel (even if this is just a part of it). I'm very grateful to you for this work of yours. Say thanks to Koneko1991 as well. *chu*

zsofianna90: Thanks! You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Woah! Thank you so much :) I didn't know any type of translation was up on the internet for these side novels until I saw the link on Sagakure's site !!! And AHHH <3 the ending made me so sad :( Sigh* I guess it explains really how he acts towards Zero in VK ... :/

But yes THANK YOU!!!

Cool~! When will translation for the second novel will be out? If I'm right, this is the same novel where Kaito appears in, correct?

Melody: You're very welcome! Yeah, the ending made me very sad too, but it does indeed explain some things. :)

Anon: Yes, it is the same novel that Kaito appears in, in Zero's story. Unfortunately I have no idea if or when that story will be translated. I have no translating skills myself *sniff* and can only edit / proof it once it's in English.

If anyone out there has mad Japanese skills and a lot of time (that's the hard one, I know :P) and wants to translate, I'd be happy to beta and format it! :)

Thank you very much!! I've been waiting for this for a long time.. Thank you!

Thank you! Wow, I can't write a long comment becuse I HAVE TO READ! OMG I'm so happy. Thanks Koneko1991 for the great translation! Thanks, THANKS! :D

thank you for share this :),, really... thank you.. T.T,,,,

I also got this english version of Vampire Knight novel! My very first anime novel I ever had! And my first manga was Vampire Knight! <3 But i was surprise to see Aidou's love story at the beginning, I liked the second season more, with Zero <3 and Kaito XD
Anyway~ yay~ I LOVE UR WEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U r MY VAMPIRE HEART IS REALLY MY VAMPIRE HEART! The best website I ever seen! =D THE REALLY BEST!

An actual official english version is coming out in Australia next month! *Preordered* :D

I'm not sure if they're releasing it in the US/UK or not, but they probably will since there are already French and German editions, and the manga/anime industry isn't even very big in Australia.

Just realized how old this post is...

liza-beth1: There is?!?! YAY!!!! Yes, that means I'm sure they'll eventually make it to the US as well, I'm glad! Ooh lucky Australia!! Hmm, I wonder if they ship the preorders internationally...? :D *goes to do some checking*

LOL yes, old post, but yay for it catching new info! :) Thanks for sharing.
