Vampire Knight Website - Need Suggestions!

I should probably not have been make impulse buys when I was on cold meds, buuut... I did. Last week I got this ad for inexpensive domain names and for the heck of it I played around to see what urls were available... and I found one I couldn't pass up.

So I am now the proud owner of:

vampire-knight.net

Okay. So. Yeah. I have it, which is pretty cool. :D But today I'm sitting there thinking: oookay, so what the heck do I do with it? LOL (This is me and my lovely inability to think things through ahead of time XD)

I have a friend who does web stuff (she helped me set up my blog in the beginning, way back when). And she's told me if I design something she can make it into a website for me, but I don't know what I would put on the site. My blog is pretty much all I can handle as far as updating, so I wouldn't want to put anything there that took a lot of time or attention, and it's not like the world needs any more fansites that exist simply to exist, but it would be fun to have something there. I looked and all the other urls that are taken, like vampire-knight.com, vampireknight.com & .net etc. are all just place holders for unrelated advertisements which seems like such a shame. :( It really seems at least one of them should have something actually Vampire Knight related on it, but I just don't know what. *sighs and ponders*

I was thinking it might be fun to have a place dedicated to fic and art challenges or contests, maybe even with real prizes and stuff or something, to kinda stimulate the fandom or generate content / interest for unusual pairings etc. (the recent discussion over on my FFN Character Relationships forum about if there were any Yagari x Kaname fics out there got me thinking on that). But I don't know if there would be enough interest to make something like that worthwhile.

I am open to ideas. If anyone has any cool thoughts or suggestions for what kind of a website would be neat to have at that url, or what kind of things could be on it, please leave it in the comments. Can't promise that I can make them happen, but I'm looking for inspiration so if you have an idea, please toss it into the mix!

*giggles* well for one you could house all your fanfiction on the website. Plus a gallery of all the goodies from VK you have. XD

Oh, what a lovely URL! :D<3

The challenges to encourage content creation seem like a great idea if we can get people to actually generate content and all, but it can be time consuming to take care of on the link run. :X

You could also have a lovely banner there and a list of links: Your bloog, your DA, VK fics on FFnet, maybe VK manga on onemanga or my posts, etc.
Or informational stuff on how and where to buy everything VK online, esplaining about what's bootlegged and what's not etc. (That might be time consuming too. Though a list of links of shops carrying official merchandise, and an explanation about the importance of supporting the series and not purchasing scans etc. might be good too. :D)

My idea is so boring. 8D;;; Maybe just the banner + list of your links (your profile on FFnet, your DA acocunt etc) and some ressources might be better, that way you have an use for the URL without really having to update often. :D

*cheers for whatever you decide* :D

Err, I meant to type on the "long run", not "link run".

Also, "explaining". ORZ

*someone needs more sleep* XD;;;

Oooh! Very cool that you have a website.

Perhaps you can have a website designing contest that includes layout and content! I would love to see a Vampire Knight website that mixes information and fun.

Like... --tries to find an example--

Kind of like: MuggleNet for Harry Potter...?

I do a bit of website designing and it would be really fun... If you do something like that, you're going to need several people who are able to help you update the website and my knowledge is on actually maintaining a website is limited and the only way I know how to update a website is go back to the html/dreamweaver file and edit stuff in.

Have fun with whatever you decide though!

it's going to be VK right? (sorry stupid question XD) So have lotsa VK (preferrably yaoi stuffies XDDDD) I mean, put in the standards lol. Hell I think if you made it a mini-community it'll be awesome :D count me in! Set up sections for fanfics, fanarts, links, affliates blah blah. oh lawl thinking about it makes me drool XDD *slams forehead on table* :'D

Thank you all for the good suggestions! I am definitely taking them all under advisement.

I'd love it to be a really neat, full-fledged community kind of thing. My only issue is that I don't know that I would have time to watch over something like that. At the same time though, I'd really like to try and make it broader than just about me and my stuff, since I already have my blog for that. I'd like for it to be some place where people could have fun and revel in VK's delightfulness. LOL Hmm, maybe I can find a middle ground in there somewhere... :D

Especially if I could recruit help for running it too. :D

I'm getting lots of good ideas from you all, and I'll try to use as many as possible, so please keep the ideas coming if you have any more! :D

anoniemouse: Yeah, I like the idea of fanfiction and galleries. Maybe there's some way we could let people add their own fics and pics too, or links to them anyway... *ponders* :)

Sagakure: Yeah! I was so surprised that I could get it. :D Yes, I really like the challenges idea, but I'd have to think it out ahead of time so it didn't get unweildy later on. Or maybe I can find people who are willing to help me run them, etc. *continues to think about it*

Yeah, I can definitely put links to a bunch of resources already online too, that's a good idea. And I like the shopping links idea. Would be hard to upkeep it continously, but maybe I could link to the slightly more pernament official stuff and have some kind of guide that explains about how to recognize bootleg, etc.

LOL your ideas are not boring! :D *huggles*

Amorpheous: Ooh, design contests are also a very good idea. I really like the idea of a site like you mentioned. I think it's probably too ambitious of me to try and create something quite as involved as MuggleNet (although MAN DO I WANT TO LOL) but I really like that idea and maybe I could try to take elements from it and do a slightly smaller version of something like that. :)

It would be fun to have quizzes and trivia and games and stuff on there, and maybe people could submit them too...!

You're very right, if I do do something more involved like that, I would definitely need to look for volunteers to help. Thanks!

Yumiii: Yes, definitely going to be VK. :D Mwahahaha well, being as that I'd be the one trying to put all this together, you can pretty much rest assured that my pervy yoai loving side would have plenty of input... ;D

Yeah, I like the idea of having sections for different fun things like that. hehe! *sends you a pillow for the table* XD Thanks!

And again, if anyone else has any ideas, please toss them into the mix.

Maybe not. I'm sorry if this is a double post!

You could definitely start out smaller and start expanding. That's probably how most huge websites started as.

I really love how easy the MuggleNet website is so easy to navigate with the neatly sorted menu. If you had to take ONE thing from that website, this would be it.

Other than that, content wise, still going off of MuggleNet, I would love Vampire Knight versions of are their Info [information about future releases and the author], Fun [games and quizzes], Media [wallpapers, avatars, games, and what-not], and Fan [fanart and fan fiction].

I really love the idea of challenges and what not. I've actually been pondering that and thinking about starting a livejournal Vampire Knight challenge community for fan fiction and/or art similar to 1sentence, 20inkspots, or loveless10, but if you decide to do something like that on your website, that would be great too!

The occasional contest would be great, and I've been itching to suggest this for a while, but something like Nilahxapiel's [ff.net] Plot Bunny Exchange. The website housing the original shame has since closed down as they moved to a fanfiction.net forum here: Plot Bunny Exchange Talk. It's a place where you can drop off plot bunnies for other people to write. You can be as involved or uninvolved in the adopting author's process and you can make suggestions and requests during the submission of your plot bunny. I've participated in the exchange, submitted a plot bunny and adopted one [I adopted one of Nightmare Remnant's bunnies actually].

I really love MuggleNet's recipe section though I'm not quite sure what could be done for Vampire Knight... Instructions on how to make a "blood tablet drink"? 8D Or you can take one of Chairman Cross' crazy concoctions and try to recreate it to be edible.

Not to get super complicated on you, but you could have multiple website themes... Some general themes like 'Kaname, Yuuki, and Zero', 'Night Class', 'Hunters', 'Evil People'... And some for pairings: 'KanamexYuuki' [a given], 'ZeroxYuuki' [another obvious one as well], 'Kaname/Zero' [how could you not?], 'TakumaxSenri', etc. Of course you wouldn't start out with this many, unless you have a ton of different people making themes, but it would definitely be cool to have maybe three different themes to choose from and maybe expand from there as time goes on. For example, Aethereality has different themes that you can apply to a site. There was one very good example with a little drop down menu tucked into the main menu that allowed you to apply themes instead of having them on a second page, but Aethereality gives a good example of different themes.

I could probably go on and on since I love the thought of having a website, but I'll stop now. XD

I have so many typos!

*I really love how the MuggleNet website is so easy to navigate with the neatly sorted menu.

*Loveless100

*I've been itching to suggest this for a while: something like Nilahxapiel's [ff.net] Plot Bunny Exchange would be awesome for the Vampire Knight fan fiction community.

*The website housing the original exchange

* You can be as involved or uninvolved in the adopting author's process as you want

Wah... I don't know where some of the text disappeared and I went from one word to another... IT ALL MADE SENSE IN MY HEAD.

Btw Nice theme ^^ (even if I'm not into BL).
Do you still search for an idea for your website? I'm moderator in a forum and I've worked as webby in a fansite in the past. Because of that I recommend a forum. There people can talk with each other, everyone can share fanworks, share useful links, and so on. I also make little contests like you want to for one forum and it's really fun^^. And the best is, compared to a normal fansite you don't need as much time for it. If you don't have the time to update, people can talk with each other.
If you like more information, then tell me here and I'll note you in dA *doesn't have a blogger accout*.
I just know a bit about that and I don't have that much time, but if you're interested and need help, then I could try to (though you must not blame me if something goes wrong XD).

That's lovely, Vani! Impulse buys can sometimes be good ones, you know :D

Wow, everyone has such good ideas - I really like the adopt plot bunny one!

Banners on other VK pairings e.g. Cross and Yagari, Takuma and Shiki would be lovely too... *sighs*

I don't know how much good I'd be but of course would love to join!

Amorpheous: Yes, I agree, I think it's a good idea to start it small-ish and hopefully let it grow into something bigger. :D

Neatly sorted menu definitely sounds like a plan. All those catagories sound great too! *takes copious notes* ;D

I like the your idea for the challenge community, sounds fun! Let me know if you start it. :) Whatever I do with the website, one thing it probably won't be is finished quickly. LOL I have a feeling this project will take a while.

Oohh! Recipes! That would be fun. :D I'm sure we could come up with some good stuff.

Love the themes idea too! I am a big fan of changing themes ;) Could always eventually run contests and allow others to submit themes too maybe. :)

Thanks for all the super ideas!!! I feel very inspired. :D

a.-s.: Thanks! :) Oh yes, always interested in more ideas for the site. That's a very good suggestion, thank you. Forums would be a good way to handle a lot of the interaction.

Sure, I would love any information you wanted to share. LOL :) Don't worry, I wouldn't expect you to have to do anything unless you wanted to, but any info gleaned from your expiriance that you wanted to share would always be appreciated. :)

YenGirl: LOL yes, sometimes they can be. :D *glances at her singing potato pealer* okay... and sometimes not... ;D

Yeah! I like the idea of the plot bunny adoption center too and definitely agree about the banners / themes. It would be fun to try and have one or more than one for many different pairings. :)

Cool! Would love and want to have you! :D

Now I just have to actually try and make some of this happen... LOL nobody hold their breath. But We'll see what I can do! :D

I wouln't have said I'd help if I didn't want to XD.
And concerning the stuff I wanted to tell you, that's just a bit more in detail how I'd imagine to do contests, manage forums and all that if you should really choose to open a forum, nothing really new ^^".
I'll note you Monday or Tuesday *is away the weekend*.

Thanks if you think I'd be useful in any way other than just waving pom poms!

*is still giggling from singing potato pealer thing* Of COURSE it's useful... er... somehow...

Let's see, for example, it can help entertain Kaname while Zero whips them both up a meal! XD

.... naw. I did not just drag yaoi into this! *shakes head*

a.-s.: Thanks! :D I appreciate it! Hope you had a great weekend. :)

YenGirl: LOL hey, the site needs pom pom wavers too! In fact, that's a very important role! *nod nod* XD *giggles and hugs* LOL there we go, finally a use for the singing potato pealer! *looks innocent* yoai? no... of course not... *drools* ;D

A forum is definitely something that you can keep in mind, but since you have a completely blank slate, you would have to code the forum whereas running a forum on a forum site is already pre-coded and all you have to do is log in and edit stuff and what not. I've run forums as well, nothing recent, but to run a forum seems almost... Overdone. There are Vampire Knight forums out there that are incredibly up to date when it comes to information and discussion. It would just seem better, well, not better, but easier and more prudent, to run a forum through forum websites because they most forum sites offer free forums and the only thing that makes it different from actually owning it is that you have the site's name in the URL and some of the sites personal advertisement here and there. Not only that, you're not paying for a server.

The Plot Bunny Exchange is definitely something I would love to see for Vampire Knight. I'm one of those people that have an overabundance of bunnies, but never enough time to write them out.

I love being able to change themes, so when a website has options like this, I tend to enjoy the website, if only for aesthetic appeal and nothing else.

I glad I could help!

Amorpheous: Hm, yes, I see what you mean about running forums on forum sites. Good food for thought there.

Oh yes! Definitely going to do something with the plot bunny exchange and the changing themes.

Actually, I'm all happy and excited today becaues I had lunch with my friend who does website programming for a living and was kind of telling her the general idea of what I wanted to do, and all the suggestions I'd gotten and everything, and she came up with some really neat ideas for ways to make it happen that would still (hopefully) be managable and very, very fun and interactive for visitors.

We're going to talk more about it, but if we can pull off even a few of the things we discussed, I think it will be a pretty neat site and hopefully be able to touch in one way or another on all the suggestions made. *keeps fingers crossed*

Thanks again!

Congrats on obtaining the new website. My suggestion is that you dedicated majority portion of ur site to ur fanworks. I mean this webpage is urs by default, so I thought it would be great to publish ur works there. But you nedd to allocatre some space for VK series like the info seiyuu and etc... A chat box would be good for the members to stay connected together and a few affliation banners to promote some of your friends. A mini shop would be ok too for VK goods for ppl to check them out. Hope these ideas work!

kanshou87: Yes, I would definitely put my stuff on there, or links to it anyway. :) Definitely want to have some kind of store section as well. Seiyuu info is good too, I hadn't thought of that. Chat and affiliates are good ideas also. Thanks for the suggestions!
